![]() ![]() Regarding direct use, I would have to think the Katana wins hands-down purely on options. On the topic of 35RT vs CR120, I believe the Crush Pro models (60/120) are the only ones referred to as being based on the Rockerverb, for whatever that's worth. Or perhaps looking to sell a PPC212, who knows. ![]() If I don't like the sound of it either, I suppose I'll be in the market for a tube head again. ![]() I guess I'll know more about the Katana when it hopefully arrives this weekend. I love the Orange vibe, and the sound of their tube offerings. I really, really wanted to love the CR120. ![]() It should be noted that this was through an Orange PPC212 closed back cabinet with Vintage 30s, so maybe that contributed to some of the treble.but that's what Orange uses for their flagship cabs, so I have a hard time blaming the cab. The overdrive channel can certainly get hairy, but for some reason I could not dial out enough treble to remove what were some pretty piercing highs. It has no tube like warmth to my ears, and just seemed kinda lifeless. Regarding the CR120, personally I just did not like the clean channel at all. I'm actually about to take back a CR120H, and have a Katana 100 head on order. does anyone happen to know if the dirty channel of the CR120H (with an ADA GCS-3 or other cab sim after it) does in fact sound better/more realistic than the 35RT (with an ADA GCS-3 or other cab sim after it)?īoss Katana Head - how do the clean and dirty channels of this amp compare to the amps above, both on their own and when driven by an OD pedal? i'm pretty positive i wouldn't be using any of the onboard effects on this amp (except for maybe reverb) and would likely only use a single footswitch) like a Boss FS-5L to switch between two channels. since this amp doesn't have a headphone/line out, i'd be using my ADA GCS-3 after the speaker output for direct use. i've read that the dirty channel sounds better on this amp than on the 35RT, but i've also heard that they sound identical. Orange CR120H - it's a little overkill size-wise and weight-wise for this usage, but i do like that there is separate EQ's for both the clean and dirty channels and a master volume. i've also heard the 4x12 cab emulation on the headphone sounds pretty good, but i do have an ADA GCS-3 i could use after the speaker output, if not. i've read that the clean and drive channels sound good, but maybe not as good as the CR120H (is that true?). if it sounds good through headphones/mixer, i might even consider removing the amp from the combo cab and mount it to my pedalboard. Orange 35RT - the cheapest and lightest of the 3. Here's what appeals to me with each amp, and some of the questions i have: The three amps i'm looking at right now are: in other words, i'd be using whichever amp as a "direct head". 90% of the time i will be using the amp direct to in ear monitors and PA when playing live, so power and speakers are not important. i will likely be using a delay in the loop or after the amp (using an ADA GCS-3 cab sim after the speaker output, and an TS style overdrive and fuzz before the amp). i'd like the clean to be able to approach edge of breakup sort of sounds, and the dirty channel to be able to get close to metal levels of gain when pushed with a tubescreamer (i'm more interested in tight mid-heavy gain like an old marshall as opposed to scooped or djent type metal sounds). I'm currently in the market for sounding solid state 2 (or more) channel amp that has good "tube-like" clean and dirty channels. ![]()
